Help prepare and serve breakfast or lunch to persons who are homeless or less fortunate than others at the UMD Community Kitchen. Two-hour or more shifts weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. are requested. Evenings and the majority of weekends have already been reserved by groups for this year. No experience required. Minimum age 15 years old accompanied by an adult.

Can you serve on the front lines at the UMD shelter? We are seeking dependable Shelter Assistants to work our regular staff. What would you do? How about: Greet, answer the telephone, and provide information to visitors and clients. Distribute supplies to residents and assist staff. Assist with monitoring the Shelter overnight to assure safety during the evening hours.
Adult volunteers who are friendly and courteous and are willing to learn about Urban Ministries in order to convey information to the public are needed. Two-hour or more shifts are available weekdays, weekends, and evenings.

- Retired mental health counselors are needed to assist with client assessments.
- College students majoring in social services or psychology are needed to assist with client assessments.
- Volunteers who have had broad training in teaching reading or literacy to adults are needed to teach Shelter residents.
- Life–skill coaches to assist staff with weekday afternoon classes. Share your tips about the job market, interview skills, resume writing, wardrobe, or preparing budgets.
