Chronically homeless people come to Urban Ministries of Durham because they have nowhere else to go.

An $11 million plan to put Charlotte’s 516 chronically homeless people into apartments got a needed boost this week from a new UNC Charlotte study that illustrates the millions of tax dollars to be saved from the initiative.

A great story in the N&O about UMD's partner agency, Wheels4Hope! They match people in need, including people who end their homelessness at UMD, with good, reliable used cars that open the door to better (and as with the man in this story, often second) jobs.

Wheels4Hope placed 18 refurbished, used cars with individuals and families in need of transportation during a charity golf event in Raleigh on Monday.

Today, we're pleased to announce UMD has been awarded a $7,500 grant from BJ's Charitable Foundation of BJ's Wholesale Club! $6,500 will go toward preparing meals in the Community Cafe three times a day to anyone in the community who needs it and $1,000 toward the purchase of bus passes for Journey Program clients staying in the Community Shelter.
