Service Projects

Many congregations, families and work and school groups organize projects and events to help UMD in a variety of ways. Get creative, make it fun, and you will surely have a rewarding experience. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Casseroles for the Cafe

Host a casserole-making party. Casseroles are the ultimate comfort food. Many congregations, families and work and school groups get together to plan, prepare and deliver large casseroles to fill our freezer. Here are some recipes for you to use.

Sandwiches & Cookies

Make sandwiches and cookies to be distributed in the Community Café. Cheese and lunch meats freeze well if the sandwiches are made with mustard instead of mayo. They should be individually wrapped in a sandwich bag or assembled and inserted back into the bread wrappers. Please indicate the type of sandwich filling on the outside of the wrapper.

The best time to deliver food items to the Cafe is weekdays between 7:30 am & 12:30pm.

Food & Clothing Drives

We welcome donations of food and clothing from individuals and groups. Many people organize drives to collect and donate items such as new, adult & children's underwear, socks, washcloths & twin blankets. Nonperishable or quality perishable foods, canned goods, toilet paper, diapers and baby food are also always welcome. We need womens, children's, and men's clothing, shoes and work boots.

Hygiene Kits

We have on-going needs for pre-assembled toiletry kits in plastic bags for men, women and children. Kits should include soap, shampoo, deodorant, combs, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotions and any feminine hygiene products. Do not include any items which contain alcohol.

Backpacks

Filled with a blanket, gloves, socks, and small toiletry items with a bus pass or phone card are extremely useful.
