MindWorks Multimedia presents the 4th Annual Empty Bowls benefit for the Community Café on Friday, March 5th, 2010 from 5:30-8:00pm at The Durham Armory.
Come and taste soups from some of the area’s finest restaurants and for "empty bowls" made by local artisans from Claymakers, Clayworks and the Durham Arts Council as a symbol of hunger and poverty in our area and around the world.
Which soup will reign supreme? The competition will be hot with participating restaurants Blu Seafood & Bar, Nana's, Papa Mojo's Roadhouse, Revolution, Rue Cler, Watts Grocery, Whole Foods, and UMD's own Community Cafe!
Ticket pricing is as follows:
$15 Donation: Soup only
$30 Donation: Soup and bowl
Children 6 and under free (no bowl).
Due to the overwhelming interest in this event, tickets are nearly sold out. Advance ticket sales are closed. A very limited quantity of tickets will be available for putchase at the door.
Can you think of anything more satisfying and comforting than a hot bowl of soup enjoyed among friends and family? Millions of people go without that comfort every day. At Urban Ministries of Durham, we believe everyone deserves a hot meal and a little comfort, and we are doing our part, serving 500-600 people in our Community Cafe each day.
Created in 1991 by a Michigan art teacher who wanted to raise funds for his community, Empty Bowls has become a nationwide project to raise awareness of the issues of hunger in nearly all 50 states. Our own benefit has grown into an annual tradition that brings together the best in Durham to help those in need in our community.
We look forward to a great Empty Bowls event this evening!
