Events (Archived)

For the last 12 years, the Feinstein Foundation has made $1 million available to hunger fighting agencies nationwide. We invite to you to join the challenge by collecting non-perishable canned food donations or by hosting a food drive at your local temple, synagogue, church, business, school or community group for the Food Pantry.

Donations received by April 30th have the potential to be matched at $1.00 per item by the Feinstein Foundation.

Durham County reports that 15.6% of county residents live below the poverty line and that 20% of Durham County’s children live in poverty. Many of these individuals, families and children come to UMD for hot meals in the Community Cafe and for groceries from the Food Pantry. Our Community Cafe serves an average of 500-600 meals a day, while the Food Pantry distributes groceries to over 400 families and children each month.

Your support this spring will help us get ready to meet the increased demand for food assistance in the summer months when children are out of school.

For more information about the challenge or how you can help, email Deanna Kleiss or call 919-682-0538 ext. 35 or Lee Nelson, leenelson@umdurham.org, or call 919-682-0538 ext. 26.

Let’s see just how much of that $1 million pie we can get to help those who need it most in our community.

The UMD Board and Staff Thank You for Your Support!
