Duke’s Doing Good in the Neighborhood Campaign Supports UMD’s Journey Forward Assistance Project
News
UMD is delighted to be among the group of twenty-nine area non-profits selected to receive funding through Duke University and Duke University Health Systems Doing Good in the Neighborhood annual giving campaign.
The Office of Durham and Regional Affairs announced the Community Care Grant awards on April 25th.

Funding will support UMD’s Journey Forward Assistance Fund which helps to provide small amounts of financial assistance for clients to achieve their goals of finding homes, securing jobs, and obtaining education.
Following are some examples of how Journey Forward Assistance funds are used:
- Bus passes for transportation to and from job interviews, medical appointments, housing prospects
- Basic supplies, home essentials, and groceries upon moving from the shelter
- Glasses and contact lenses
- Uniforms for work and school
- Tuition costs, books, and supplies
- Fees for certification programs such as ServSafe
These funds help clients make a fresh start in the next phase of their journey!
We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the employees of Duke University and Duke University Health Systems. Thank you!
