UMD Receives 2011 Business Excellence Award
At the annual awards banquet on September 15, Urban Ministries of Durham was honored by the Durham Chamber of Commerce receiving a 2011 Business Excellence Award for the Non-Profit Sector. There were 10 other wonderful agencies nominated, and UMD is honored to shared the win with the Durham Literacy Council.
The Chamber non-profit award recognizes a non-profit that demonstrates superior performance, quality and consistency in the pursuit of its mission, as well as its programmatic offerings to the community and overall non-profit management excellence.
The Chamber stated that "Urban Ministries of
Durham (UMD) impacts neighbors in need in Durham on a daily basis by providing
shelter, food, clothing and supportive services. In addition to making a
difference in the lives of the people they serve, the work they do impacts the
lives of UMD's employees, volunteers, interns and the many donors,
congregations, and additional community organizations they partner with to
provide the services to help those in need. This year, UMD launched the pioneering
online game SPENT, raising awareness about homelessness and poverty."
We sincerely appreciate this award and the staff, board members, volunteers and financial supporters that make it possible to carry out our important work in the Durham community!
